Valencia’s Lonnie Jackson Scores School Record 38 Points In Canyon Classic Basketball Tournament

sportslocalValencia High basketball player Lonnie Jackson scored a school-record 38 points in his team’s 96-50 win over Grant in the Canyon Classic at Canyon High School last night.

Jackson broke the mark of 35 points set by Curtis Dunwoody and Jerron Jordan. Jackson had 25 points at halftime and, with his team comfortably out front, sat out the last nine minutes of the game. Brandon Bennett chipped in with 10 points for Valencia.

 

The West Ranch boys basketball team lost to Highland, 80-69, in the Canyon Classic. Martin Flowers scored a team-high nine points for West Ranch.

The Hart boys team needed double overtime and 39 points from Cole Preston to beat Moorpark in the Moorpark Tournament. Roman Delgado added 12 points in Hart’s win.

The Valencia girls team got 17 points and nine rebounds from Faith Anumba in a 57-50 win over Sierra Canyon.

The Saugus girls lost to Beverly Hills, 67-43. Kaylynn Martin scored 18 points for Saugus.

In high school soccer, the Santa Clarita Christian girls team shut out Desert, 5-0, behind two goals from Joanna Masopust and three assists from Kayla Gale.

The Canyon girls lost to Chaminade, 2-1. Devon Goff scored the lone goal for Canyon.

The West Ranch girls were shut out, 1-0, by Crescenta Valley, the No. 7 team in the preseason CIF-Southern Section Division II rankings.

In college basketball, Raphael Harris scored 21 points in The Master’s College’s 51-43 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills. Joey Fuca added 14 points for The Master’s College, which won for the first time in its past three games.
