Valencia’s Maddie Dignadice Leads Girls Cross Country Team At Asics/Clovis Invitational

khts_sportsValencia’s Maddie Dignadice finished second in the girls Division I cross country race at the 33rd annual Asics/Clovis Invitational over the weekend.

She was leading the race with about a mile to go when she was passed by Royal freshman Brianne Holland, who won the race.

Valencia’s Arianna Michaels was eighth and the Vikings finished in third place as a team at the meet.

Four football teams from the Foothill League are ranked in the top 10 of the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll.

Canyon is No. 2 after a 42-0 shutout against Dos Pueblos. Hart had a bye last week and is ranked No. 6.

West Ranch also had a bye and comes in at No. 8. Valencia dropped two spots to No. 10 after a 28-10 loss to Loyola.

The Foothill League season begins Friday night.

The Trinity Classical Academy football team is ranked No. 4 in the 8-man Division II poll.

The Golden Valley boys cross country team is ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division II poll.

The West Ranch girls tennis team is No. 1 in the Southern Section Division III poll. Valencia’s girls tennis team is not far behind at No. 4.

In college volleyball, The Master’s College women lost to Azusa Pacific in four games. Samantha Dougherty led The Master’s College with 18 kills.

The NBA has cancelled the first two weeks of the season and the first 100 games, commissioner David Stern said Monday.

The cancellation of games marks the first NBA work stoppage since the 1998-99 season, when the season was reduced to 50 games.
