Valencia’s Manfro Scores 4 TDs Against Palmdale

khts_sportsIt was a good weekend for the football teams from the Foothill League.

The Valencia High football team beat Palmdale, 45-7, at Valencia High School. Steven Manfro scored four touchdowns, one on a 92-yard kick-off return to start the game. He has 14 touchdowns in three games. Valencia is 3-0 and is showing little sign of slowing down.

Quarteback Alex Bishop threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns. Two of his touchdown passes went to Max Rodriguez. Bishop also threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Manfro in the second quarter.

The Golden Valley football team won its second game in impressive fashion, 33-3, over Channel Islands. Running back Earl Johnson scored three touchdowns. He scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and carried the ball six times for 125 yards. He also scored on an interception return.

The Hart football team beat Arroyo, 44-3. Quarterback Cory Mayes threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns. He hit receiver Kevin King for a 70-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.

The Saugus football team beat Lancaster’s Knight High School, 28-14. Saugus quarterback Jared Carbajal rushed for 192 yards and threw two touchdown passes.

The Canyon football team remained undefeated at 3-0 with a 41-28 win over Camarillo. Quarterback Johnathan Jerozal threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns.

The West Ranch football team was the only Foothill League team to lose. The Wildcats lost to Silverado, 24-20, at Victor Valley High School. West Ranch quarterback Connor Eichten threw for 208 yards and three touchdowns. He threw two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team beat up on Trinity Classical Academy, 46-0. Santa Clarita Christian running back Daniel Green scored five touchdowns. The game ended at halftime because of a 45-point mercy rule.

In college football, the College of the Canyons football team beat East L.A. College, 33-6. COC running back Ryan Zirbel gained 62 yards on 11 carries and scored a touchdown on an 8-yard reception.

The UCLA Bruins knocked off the seventh ranked Texas Longhorns, 34-12. UCLA beat a ranked opponent for the second week in a row. Running back Johnathan Franklin rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown.

The No. 20 USC Trojans beat Washington State, 50-16. USC running back Stan Havili scored two touchdowns and gained 187 yards from scrimmage. He caught five passes for 107 yards and rushed for 80 yards.

The Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in typical fashion, 5-4. The Diamondbacks scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to win the game. Chris Young and Tony Abreu each hit two-run home runs in the eighth.

The Dodgers move on to Colorado to start a three-game series tonight. It will be Ted Lilly on the mound for the Dodgers against Ubaldo Jimenez for the Rockies. Pregame starts at 5 on AM 1220, KHTS.
