Valencia’s Shane Zeile Hits 2 HRs Against Saugus

khts_sportsValencia’s Shane Zeile came through again with a pair of home runs in the Vikings’ 17-13 win over Saugus. Zeile drove in six runs and scored three. He hit a two-run home run in the third inning. His three-run homer in the fourth gave Valencia a 9-7 lead.

Evan Steen had a nice day at the plate for Saugus, with three hits and two RBIs. Andru Cardenas was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs for Saugus.

James Bonds was 5-for-5 with three doubles and two RBIs for Valencia, which improved to 4-0 in Foothill League play.

While Valencia and Saugus were lighting up the scoreboard, Hart’s Erik Vogel pitched a gem across town against West Ranch.

Vogel tossed a three-hit shutout and beat West Ranch, 2-0. He had three strikeouts, walked only one and retired the first 13 West Ranch batters he faced.

Hart took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a bunt single by Steve Rosso that drove in Alex Tenorio. Tenorio gave Hart a 2-0 lead with an RBI double in the sixth inning.

Hart followed its win over West Ranch with a 9-0 shutout against Canyon of Anaheim in the OC Nissan Tournament on Saturday.

Tyler Glasnow struck out nine in six innings and gave up only four hits. Daniel Dietz was 3-for-4 and scored two runs for Hart.

The Canyon baseball team won its second Foothill League game of the season, 9-6, over Golden Valley.

Canyon scored three runs in the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie and rally for the win.

Grant Westerson delivered the big blow for Canyon with a base-loaded, two-run single in the seventh.

The Trinity Classical Academy baseball team lost to Ventura County Christian, 4-2, at College of the Canyons. Dakota Prochnow had a RBI double in the first inning for Trinity.

It wasn’t much better for Trinity against Lancaster Baptist on Saturday. Trinity lost, 7-2, despite a stellar pitching performance by Prochnow. He struck out 12 and went the distance. He also went 2-for-3.

The West Ranch softball team won its firs two games of the Santiago Spring Fling. The Wildcats beat Mater Dei of Chula Vista, 8-4, and Riverside Christian, 9-2.

West Ranch starter Bailey Foster won both games. She pitched a complete game against Mater Dei. She went four innings against Riverside Christian.

Janelle Lindvall had two hits, including a home run, for West Ranch against Mater Dei.

Lauren Lombardi was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple against Riverside Christian.

West Ranch faces Los Alamitos in the next round of the Spring Fling on Saturday.

The Canyon softball team split a pair of games in the Valley Classic tournament at Birmingham High School. Canyon beat Bellarmine-Jefferson, 6-5, but lost to Oaks Christian, 3-0.

Danielle Sullivan pitched a complete game and knocked in the winning run in the seventh inning for Canyon against Bell-Jeff.

Lauren Hill was dealt the loss against Oaks Christian. She pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and striking out three.

The College of the Canyons softball team won two games in the Ventura Tournament. COC beat Ventura, 5-3, and Reedley, 6-5.

Karissa Hartwig won both games for COC. Bree De La Torre was 2-for-4 with a triple and Julie Nixion was 2-for-3 with a triple for COC against Ventura.

Calli Foster was 2-for-3 with a home run for COC against Reedley.

In auto racing, Santa Clarita’s Connor Cantrell, making his first start at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale since 2008, started on the pole and finished third in the NASCAR Super Trucks race.

Ryan Partridge of Rancho Cucamonga, the reigning Super Trucks champion at the track, won the season opener.

The University of Connecticutt will play Bulter for the NCAA men’s basketball national championship tonight in Houston.

UConn beat Kentucky in one of the national semifinals. Butler beat Virginia Commonwealth in the other semifinal to reach the championship game.

The Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets, 95-90, and saw their nine-game winning streak snapped.

It was only the second loss since the All-Star break for the Lakers.

Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 28 points and Pau Gasol had 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Next up for the Lakers are the Utah Jazz at Staples Center on Tuesday night.

The Kings can clinch a playoff spot with a win agains the Sharks tonight in San Jose.

The Kings are coming off a 3-1 over the Dallas Stars on Saturday. The Sharks have won four games in a row, including 4-2 over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.
