The Valencia football team has a little breathing room in the Foothill League standings. Valencia beat Canyon, 52-31, and is the only team with an undefeated record in league play. Valencia is 2-0. Canyon, Hart, Saugus and West Ranch are tied for second place with 1-1 records.
Canyon came into the game against Valencia as the only team with an undefeated record. Valencia running back Steven Manfro scored four touchdowns and rushed for 193 yards in his team’s win.
Canyon quarterback Jonathan Jerozal threw for three touchdowns and 317 yards. He completed seven passes to receiver Drew Wolitarsky for 181 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown.
Valencia quarterback Alex Bishop went over the 300-yard mark for passing, too. He completed 18-of-20 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns.
In other Foothill League games, Saugus scored three touchdowns in the second half and rallied to beat Hart, 21-14, snapping Hart’s four-game winning streak.
Saugus running back Tyler Watt scored two touchdowns and rushed for 98 yards.
Saugus quarterback Evan Steen scored the game-winning touchdown on a 24-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Hart running back Dylan Edwards rushed for 85 yards and scored a touchdown. Hart receiver Kevin King caught eight passes for 127 yards and a touchdown.
The West Ranch football team got three touchdowns from Rawston Redick and beat Golden Valley, 21-17. Redick scored the game-wininng touchdown with less than a minute to play in the game.
Redick’s three-touchdown performance trumped a school record night for Golden Valley running back Jeff Coprich who rushed for 202 yards on 19 carries.
Golden Valley receiver Isa Bey caught two touchdown passes in the loss.
The Santa Clarita Christian football team played a full four-quarter game for the first time this season and lost. Faith Baptist beat Santa Clarita Christian, 52-16, in the Heritage League opener for both teams.
Santa Clarita Christian mercy ruled its first six opponents of the season. But Santa Clarita Christian committed three turnovers and was down, 26-8 at halftime. Faith Baptist scored another 26 points in the second half and routed Santa Clarita Christian.
The Trinity Classical Academy football team beat L.A. Lutheran, 62-44, to win its second Omega League game in a row.
Freshman quarterback Spencer Klehn threw three touchdown passes and scored a rushing touchdown.
In college football, the College of the Canyons football team beat Allan Hancock College, 30-27, in overtime.
COC receiver Rickeem Jackson scored three touchdowns and scored the game-winner in overtime. He finished with 10 catches for 96 yards.
In hockey, the Kings are in Minnesota for a game against the Wild tonight. The Kings are coming off a 6-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche and have won four of their past five games.
The Wild is coming off a 3-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks.
