Valencia’s Trey Williams Flashes Some Leather In All-American Classic Baseball Game

khts_sportsValencia’s Trey Williams helped the West all stars to a 6-2 win over the East in the ninth annual  Perfect Game All-American Classic baseball game at Petco Park in San Diego over the weekend.

Williams made the defensive play of the game with a sliding catch in left field in the second inning. He finished up the game at third base and recorded the final out of the game with a diving catch.

At the plate, he reached on an error and scored during a four-run rally in the third inning.

In auto racing, Canyon High graduate Greg Pursley padded his lead in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West standings with a fourth-place finish at Montana Raceway Park.

Pursley’s teammate at Gene Price Motorsports, 16-year Dylan Kwasniewski, won his second race in a row.

In baseball, the Angels lost to the visiting Texas Rangers, 8-4, and took a major step backward in the American League West standings. The loss puts the Angels five games behind the first-place Rangers.

To make matters worse, Angels starter Garrett Richards didn’t make it past the first inning. He injured his groin and had to be taken out of the game.

In other games, the A’s lost to the Orioles, 6-2, the Mariners beat the Blue Jays, 6-5, Jim Thome hit his 600th career home run for the Twins in a 9-6 win over the Tigers, and the Yankees beat the Royals, 7-4.

In the National League, the Giants lost to the Braves, 5-4, the Mets beat the Padres, 5-4 in 10 innings, the Rockies beat the Marlins, 7-4, the Pirates beat the Cardinals, 6-2, and the Cubs slipped past the Astros, 4-3.
