CIF State Division V Basketball
The Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals are one win away from the first boys basketball California state title in school history. The Cardinals won their 18th straight Saturday night, knocking off 7-seed Van Nuys, 81-73, in the regional finals.
Sophomore Caden Starr led the way in scoring with 29 points, Kaleb Lowery added a double-double (11 points and 16 boards), and Jordan Starr facilitated the offense with eight assists to go along with his 12 points.
SCCS, which hasn’t lost since playing at Windward (Division I) over two months ago, will head up to Sacramento for the CIF State Championship to take on Argonaut, the top seeded team in Northern California. The Mustangs have won nine in a row and were the top seed in the San Jaoquin Section Division V playoffs in addition to the State tournament.
It will be battle of No. 1’s at Golden 1 Center on Saturday, March 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

Golden Valley (7-0) is on the move in the CIF Southern Section Division III polls, up four spots to No. 6 after wins over Hawthorne, Chavez and Pacifica last week.
