Weltig, Redmond Win Oxnard City Golf Championships

Ashley_RedmondThe Oxnard City Golf Championships belong to a couple players from the Santa Clarita Valley.

Ryan Weltig, a West Ranch High School graduate and a student at College of the Canyons, won the men’s championship with a 3-under par 141 in the two-day tournament over the weekend at the River Ridge golf course.

Ashley Redmond, a Hart High graduate, won the women’s championship by one shot and a two day total of 157.

Weltig finished in a tie with Andrew Perez and needed a one-hole playoff to capture the men’s championship.

Redmond, a senior at Morehead State University, had an eagle and shot a 2-over par 74 on the second day of the tournament.

“It was tough, but I played solid,” said Redmond. “The eagle putt I made on 13 was a tough downhill slider. It was a big putt.”

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
