West Ranch Advances To CIF Softball Quarterfinals With Win Over Foothill

The West Ranch softball team rallied in extra innings to beat Foothill, 8-4, in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Divisions 1 playoffs.

Julia Lombardi tied the score with a two-run double in the seventh inning. She was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs in the game.

Keeley Walsh put the Wildcats over the top with a two-run double in the ninth inning. She was 3-for-5.

West Ranch is in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section softball playoffs for the first time in school history. The Wildcats play Santiago of Corona at home on Thursday.

In high school baseball, Santa Clarita Christian lost, 9-7, to Riverside Christian in the second round of the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs.

Clint Ross was 3-for-5 with a three-run double for Santa Clarita Christian. The Cardinals finish their season with a 12-8 record.

In high school ice hockey, Valencia beat Hart, 5-3, in the semifinals of the Ice Station Valley league playoffs.

Tristen Chan scored two goals for Valencia. His second goal of the game in the third period gave the Vikings a 4-3 lead. Luc Whyte and Adam Tybor also scored for Valencia.

Antelope Valley beat Bakersfield, 3-2, in the other semifinal game.

Valencia will play Antelope Valley for the Ice Station Valencia league championship.

In the NHL playoffs, the Kings lost to the San Jose Sharks, 2-1, in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals.

Mike Richards scored the lone goal for the Kings in the third period.

The Kings and Sharks are tied at two games apiece. Game 5 is at Staples Center on Thursday.

In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-2. The Dodgers have lost four of their past five games.

The Brewers scored four runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. Dodgers starter Zack Greinke gave up all five runs in four innings.

The Dodgers and Brewers play again this morning. It will be Hyun-Jin Ryu for the Dodgers against Wily Peralta for the Brewers.
