The West Ranch baseball team improved to 2-0 in the Valley Invitational Baseball League with a 4-1 win over Alemany.
JC Cloney pitched four shut-out innings and struck out six. He gave up only one hit and didn’t walk a batter.
Casey Millar drove in two runs and Matt Blake was 2-for-4 with double.
Valencia beat Taft 6-1 to win its first game in Valley Invitational Baseball League play. Valencia scored five runs in the fourth inning and Chris Castellon knocked in three runs with a triple. But Castellon’s triple was the only hit in the game for Valencia. The Vikings drew eight walks. Jake Roberge had two of them, scored a run and drove in another.
Hart lost its first Valley Invitational Baseball League game, 7-6, to Kennedy. Hart had a 5-2 lead in the fourth inning, but Kennedy scored three runs in the fifth. Hart tied the game, 6-6, in the top of the seventh, only to see Kennedy score the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning.
Baggio Saldivar drove in two runs and Tommy Bilbo was 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run for Hart.
In college sports, the Pac-10 is expanding with the addition of Colorado to the conference. The Pac-10 will have 11 teams when Colorado joins in 2012.
The Big 12, the conference Colorado is leaving, is down to 10 teams. Nebraska has also decided to leave the Big 12 conference and join the Big 10, which will have 12 teams.
In the NBA Finals, the Celtics got a big boost from their bench in a 96-89 win in Game 4 in Boston. Glenn Davis scored nine of his 18 points in the fourth quarter and the Celtic reserves outscored the Lakers bench, 36-18.
Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 33 points and made six 3-pointers. The Celtics had six players score in double figures. Nate Robinson scored 12 off the bench for Boston.
The series is tied at two games apiece. Game 5 is Sunday night in Boston.
The Dodgers begin a weekend series with the Angels tonight. The Dodgers will send Chad Billingsley to the mound in search of his seventh win of the season. The Angels will counter with Joel Pineiro.
The Dodgers are in first place in the National League West standings, a game ahead of the San Diego Padres.
The Angels are in second place in the American League West standings, a game and a half behind the Texas Rangers.
