The West Ranch baseball team scored seven runs in the fourth inning en route to a 13-0 shutout over Canyon.
Allen Sarkissian pitched four scoreless innings and went 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate for West Ranch.
Josh Heinz hit a pair of doubles and drove in a run and Chris Caldwell was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for West Ranch.
The Valencia baseball team’s offense exploded against Golden Valley in a 22-4 win. Valencia scored five runs in the first inning. Trey Williams and Shane Zeile each hit home runs for Valencia.
Brennan Bernardino hit two home runs and Josh Smith hit one homer for Golden Valley.
Saugus outfielder Scott Lombardi hit two home runs, including a three-run shot in the third inning, and drove in four runs in his team’s 6-5 win over Hart. But Hart scored four runs in the seventh inning before Saugus finally squelched the rally.
Hart’s Pat Valaika hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to cut the Saugus lead to one. He drove in three runs in the game. James Threw recorded the save Saugus, getting the final out of the game on a strikeout.
In high school swimming, the West Ranch boys and girls beat Golden Valley in a Foothill League meet. The boys won 132-37 and the girls won 118-50.
The Hart boys beat Saugus, 112-58, and the Hart girls beat Saugus, 123-47.
Bryan Herta Autosport is preparing for the 2010 Firestone Indy Lights season with two new drivers and high expectations. The Indy Lights season opens in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Sunday.
Stefan Wilson and Sebastian Saavedra will be driving for the team owned by Valencia resident and Hart High graduate Bryan Herta. Wilson is the younger brother of Izod IndyCar Series driver Justin Wilson. Saavedra won the Indy Lights rookie of the year in 2009.
The Lakers started their five-game road trip on a winning note, beating the San Antonio Spurs, 92-83. Kobe Bryant scored 24 points and had 10 of those in the fourth quarter. He hit two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter that ended any hope of a Spurs comeback.
In hockey, the Kings lost to the Colorado Avalanche, 4-3, in a shootout. The Kings scored two goals in the third period to tie the game. Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist. Alexander Frolov scored a power-play goal in the third period to tie the game.
