khts_sportsThe West Ranch baseball team squeaked past St. Francis and stayed undefeated in the Valley Invitational Baseball League.

West Ranch scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat St. Francis, 6-5, and improve to 8-0 in the summer baseball league.

Michael Alvarez hit a one-out triple for West Ranch in the seventh. Ryan Keller drove him in with a two-out single.

West Ranch trailed throughout the game. St. Francis took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Gabe Peralta got West Ranch on the board with a two-run triple in the second inning. Steven Farnworth scored Peralta on a suicide squeeze to tie the game 3-3.

But St. Francis took a 5-3 lead in the third inning. West Ranch tied the game, 5-5, in the fifth before scoring the game-winning run in the seventh.

In other Valley Invitational Baseball League games, Hart beat Burroughs, 3-1. Cole Gasper drove in two runs with a single in the fifth inning.

Hart starter Tyler Glasnow pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, one walk and didn’t give up a hit.

The Lakers had two second-round picks in the draft. They took Devin Ebanks, a small forward from West Virginia, with the 43rd pick. With the 58th pick, the Lakers took Derrick Caracter, a 6-10 power forward out of the University of Texas, El Paso.

The Clippers picked Willie Warren, a 6-4 guard from Oklahoma, in the second round.

They also acquired the rights to Eric Bledsoe from Oklahoma City in a draft-day deal. The Clippers sent a future first-round pick to the Thunder for the guard from Kentucky.

The Dodgers used a five-run fourth inning to finally beat the Angels, 10-6, last night in Anaheim.

Manny Ramirez hit a pair of RBI singles and the Dodgers snapped a season-high six-game losing streak. The Dodgers also beat the Angels for the first time this season. They were 1-5 against their Southern California rivals in interleague play.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
