West Ranch Baseball Team Rallies To Beat St. Francis in VIBL

khts_sportsThe West Ranch baseball team squeaked past St. Francis and stayed undefeated in the Valley Invitational Baseball League.

West Ranch scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat St. Francis, 6-5, and improve to 8-0 in the summer baseball league.

Michael Alvarez hit a one-out triple for West Ranch in the seventh. Ryan Keller drove him in with a two-out single.

West Ranch trailed throughout the game. St. Francis took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Gabe Peralta got West Ranch on the board with a two-run triple in the second inning. Steven Farnworth scored Peralta on a suicide squeeze to tie the game 3-3.

But St. Francis took a 5-3 lead in the third inning. West Ranch tied the game, 5-5, in the fifth before scoring the game-winning run in the seventh.

In other Valley Invitational Baseball League games, Hart beat Burroughs, 3-1. Cole Gasper drove in two runs with a single in the fifth inning.

Hart starter Tyler Glasnow pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, one walk and didn’t give up a hit.

Valencia shut out Cleveland, 9-0. Nick Rivas and David Hausman combined on a one-hitter. Spencer Daniels was 2-for-4 with a double and drove in three runs.

Saugus beat Canyon, 11-6. Andru Cardenas, Chris Devery and Justin Donatella each drove in two runs for Saugus. Devery scored three runs and Cardenas had two hits and scored two runs.

Golden Valley rallied to beat Crespi, 4-3, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and pushing across the winning run in the eighth inning.

Josh Smith led off the eighth with a single and came around to score on a ground out by Jonah Sabedra.

In the NBA draft, the Washington Wizards, as expected, took John Wall, a guard from Kentucky, with the first pick.

The Clippers selected Al-Farouq Aminu, a 6-9 forward out of Wake Forest, with the No. 8 pick.

The Lakers had two second-round picks in the draft. They took Devin Ebanks, a small forward from West Virginia, with the 43rd pick. With the 58th pick, the Lakers took Derrick Caracter, a 6-10 power forward out of the University of Texas, El Paso.

The Clippers picked Willie Warren, a 6-4 guard from Oklahoma, in the second round.

They also acquired the rights to Eric Bledsoe from Oklahoma City in a draft-day deal. The Clippers sent a future first-round pick to the Thunder for the guard from Kentucky.

The Dodgers used a five-run fourth inning to finally beat the Angels, 10-6, last night in Anaheim.

Manny Ramirez hit a pair of RBI singles and the Dodgers snapped a season-high six-game losing streak. The Dodgers also beat the Angels for the first time this season. They were 1-5 against their Southern California rivals in interleague play.

The Yankees are in town for a weekend series with the Dodgers starting tonight. It will be the Yankees first visit to Dodger Stadium since the 1981 World Series.

Vicente Padilla is scheduled to start for the Dodgers. C.C. Sabathia will be on the hill for the Yankees. Pregame starts at 6:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
