West Ranch Boys Basketball Team Knocks Off CIF State Champs

The West Ranch boys basketball team beat Alemany, 69-61, in the quarterfinals of the Santa Monica Tournament.

Ako Kaluna had a monsters game for West Ranch with 23 points and 24 rebounds. Kevin Harris scored 20 points with three 3-pointers in the second half and the Wildcats posted a signature win over the reigning CIF Division 3 state champions.

West Ranch moves on to the semifinals of the tournament against Chaminade tonight.

The Hart boys basketball team squeaked past Westlake, 70-68, in the semifinals of the Crescenta Valley Tournament. Miles Franklin and Lewis Stallworth each scored 21 points for the Indians.

Hart plays host Crescenta Valley in the championship game tonight.

The Canyon boys beat St. Genevieve, 67-57, on the second day of the Canyon Classic tournament.

The Albert Einstein Academy boys beat Pilgrim, 78-28, in an Omega League game. Sahil Rai scored 20 points for Einstein.

The Canyon girls basketball team beat Ventura, 41-39, in the quarterfinals of the Buena Kiwanis tournament. Kali Vittallo scored 16 points for Canyon.

The Canyon girls play Buena in the semifinals tonight.

The Albert Einstein Academy girls beat Hillcrest Christian, 34-27 in overtime, in an Omega League game. Alison Burke scored 19 points for Einstein.

In high school soccer, the Hart boys shut out San Fernando, 1-0, behind a first-half goal by David White. He scored in the 38th minute and the Indians improved to 4-0 on the season.

The Canyon boys played to a 3-3 tie against Quartz Hill. Chad Ybarra scored three goals, two in the first half to give Canyon a 2-0 lead. But Quartz Hill tied the score, 2-2. Ybarra’s third goal gave the Cowboys a 3-2 lead, but Quartz Hill tied it again in the second half.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys blanked Desert, 1-0. Jeremy Harris scored the only goal of the game on a penalty kick.

The Saugus girls scored two goals in the second half and beat Crescenta Valley, 3-1. Angie Weiner scored the go-ahead goal in the 55th minute.

The Hart girls were shut out by El Camino Real, 2-0, in the El Camino Classic tournament.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls shut out Desert, 8-0. Megan Gallagher scored three goals for the hat trick for Santa Clarita Christian.

In college basketball, The Master’s College men beat La Sierra, 99-58. Derrick Fain led the Mustangs with 21 points and made five 3-pointers.
