West Ranch, Canyon Baseball Teams Close To Cracking CIF Top 10 Poll

The Canyon and West Ranch baseball teams are knocking on the door of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 top 10.

Both teams are listed among others in the Division 1 poll. Canyon and West Ranch are tied for first place in the Foothill League standings with 6-3 records.

Mater Dei is the No. 1 team in Division 1.

In high school tennis, the Valencia boys moved up a spot and are ranked No. 6 in the Southern Section Division 2 poll.

San Marino is the top-ranked team in Division 2.

In college softball, the College of the Canyons ran its record to 17-0 in the Western State Conference Blue Division with wins over Citrus College and LA Valley College last week.

The Lady Cougars, ranked No. 15 in the state, plays LA Mission College today.

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the Memphis Grizzlies, 93-91, to take a 2-0 lead in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Chris Paul scored the game-winning shot with 0.1 seconds left in the game. He had 24 points and nine assists. Game 3 is Thursday in Memphis.

In baseball, the Dodgers are in New York to start a three-game series against the Mets. It will be Clayton Kershaw for the Dodgers against Jonathan Niese for the Mets. First pitch is at 4:10.

In hockey, the Kings are in Minnesota for a game against the Wild. The Kings are coming off a 4-3 overtime win over the Dallas Stars. They have won two games in a row and four of their past five.
