West Ranch Faces Orange Lutheran In First Round Of CIF Boys Volleyball Playoffs

The West Ranch boys volleyball team opens the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs against Orange Lutheran on Tuesday night.

West Ranch won the Foothill League championship. Orange Lutheran is the third-place team from the Trinity League. The game is at West Ranch High School.

The Hart boys volleyball team opens the playoffs on the road against Newport Harbor. Hart finished in second place in the Foothill League. Newport Harbor is the second-place team from the Sunset League.

Saugus, the third-place team from the Foothill League, is on the road and plays Westlake in the first round. Westlake won the Marmonte League championship.

In high school baseball, Canyon beat Golden Valley, 6-5, and moved into sole possession of first place in the Foothill League standings.

Justin Stark drove in four runs for Canyon. The Cowboys scored the winning run in the fifth inning on an errant pickoff throw.

The Hart baseball team beat West Ranch, 9-8, and knocked the Wildcats out of first place in the Foothill League.

Dayton Provost hit a home run and was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Hart.

The Valencia baseball team beat Saugus, 7-1. The Vikings took the lead scoring two runs in the third inning. They scored two more in the fifth and two more in the sixth innings.

In college baseball, the College of the Canyons advanced to the Super Regional round of the California Community College Athletic Association playoffs after winning two games over San Bernardino College.

COC, the No. 13 seed in the Southern California regional, beat San Bernardino, 7-0 and 3-2, to win the three-game playoff series.

The Master’s College baseball team won the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament championship downing San Diego Christian, 8-3, in the title game.

The Mustangs will host a regional round of the NAIA tournament starting on Thursday.

In the majors, the Dodgers lost to the San Francisco Giants, 4-3. The Giants completed the weekend sweep of the Dodgers. They have lost five of their past six games.

The Dodgers are back home to start a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight. First pitch is at 7:10.

In the NHL, the Kings shut out the St. Louis Blues, 1-0, in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Game 4 is at Staples Center tonight. The Kings are down, two games to one.
