The West Ranch softball team plays Santiago from Corona today in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.
West Ranch is coming off an 8-4, extra inning win over Foothill on Tuesday. Santiago eliminated Vista Murrieta in the second round.
The game is at West Ranch and starts at 3:15.
In college track and field, the NAIA Outdoor National Championships begin today in Marion, Ind. Seven athletes from The Master’s College will be in action.
John Gilbertson runs in the 10,000 meter race tonight. He is the favorite to win the race and has the seventh-fastest time in the nation in the 10,000 meters this year.
David Eller is entered in the 3,000 meter steeple chase. Matthew Crichton runs in the 1,500 meters.
In the women’s meet, Saugus High graduate Karis Frankian and Katrina Graham will race in the 10,000 meters.
Ayla Draper is in the 400 meter hurdles and Hannah Kellerman is in the 1,500.
In college basketball, The Master’s College signed a junior college player from Washington. Zach Stalin, a forward who played for two seasons at Whatcom Community College, will join the Mustangs in 2013.
He averaged 15.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game in his sophomore season.
In college soccer, The Master’s College signed Elijah Paniagua from San Gabriel to join the men’s team in the fall.
Paniagua, a midfielder, played at Temple City High School and led his team in scoring and assists in his senior season.
He is one of five new recruits to join the Mustangs soccer team.
In baseball, the Dodgers beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 9-2, scoring five runs in the second inning. Ramon Hernandez hit his first home run of the season and Carl Crawford and Scott Van Slyke each drove in two runs for the Dodgers.
The Dodgers took two of three games from the Brewers. They have the day off today and start a weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Dodger Stadium on Friday.
In the NHL playoffs, the Kings are home for Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals. The series is tied at two games apiece. The Kings are coming off a 2-1 loss to the Sharks in Game 4.
