West Ranch Football Team Faces Undefeated St. Francis At Valencia High School

khts_sportsThe Foothill League football teams are gearing up for their last preseason games.

West Ranch, coming off a tough 24-20 loss to Silverado, takes on an undefeated St. Francis team at Valencia High School tonight.

St. Francis is 3-0 and beat Venice, 31-13, last week. West Ranch is 2-2. Quarterback Connor Eichten threw for 208 yards and three touchdowns against Silverado, but West Ranch gave up 284 rushing yards.

The Hart football team hosts Birmingham at College of the Canyons. Hart is on a bit of a roll and coming a 44-3 win over Arroyo last week. Birmingham is in a bit of a tailspin and coming off a 38-6 loss to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

Undefeated Valencia is on the road against Santa Monica. Valencia handily defeated Palmdale, 45-7, last week. Running back Steven Manfro has scored 14 touchdowns in three games.

Santa Monica is 2-1 and coming off a 35-29 loss to Villa Park.

Canyon takes its undefeated record on the road to Beverly Hills. Canyon beat Camarillo, 41-28, last week to improve to 3-0. Beverly Hills is also 3-0 and coming off a 36-7 win over Hamilton.

The Saugus football team travels to Taft High School. Saugus beat Knight High from Lancaster, 28-14, last week. Taft is coming off a heartbreaking, 36-26, loss to Alemany.

The feel-good Golden Valley Grizzlies travel to Serrano High in Phelan. Golden Valley is 2-1 and coming off a 33-3 win over Channel Islands. Serrano is 3-1 and beat Highland, 17-14, last week.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team plays Hesperia Christian tonight. Santa Clarita Christian, the reigning CIF Division I 8-man football champions, has mercy-ruled its previous two opponents.

In college football, the College of the Canyons football team hosts Grossmont College on Saturday. COC is 3-1 and has won its past two games.

The Foothill League season opened for the girls volleyball teams. Saugus posted a three-game sweep over West Ranch.

Jaclyn Clark had 13 kills and 10 digs for Saugus in a match that was closer than the final score indicates.

West Ranch took Saugus to the limit in all three games. Saugus won 26-24, 25-23, 25-23.

Sarah Blomgren had 11 kills and four blocks for Saugus.

Hannah Orlandi led West Ranch with 11 kills.

The Canyon girls volleyball team beat Golden Valley in four games to win its league opener.

Canyon setter Christina Guerrero led a balanced attack with 32 assists. Morgan Fayhad had eight kills to lead Canyon.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls volleyball team beat Desert High in five games. Amanda Mothershead had 11 kills for Santa Clarita Christian.

The Trinity girls volleyball team beat San Fernando Academy in four games. Julia Howell had a team-high nine kills for Trinity.

The Dodgers start their season-ending series with the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight at Dodger Stadium.

It will be John Ely for the Dodgers against Zach Kroenke for the Diamondbacks.
