West Ranch Football Team Shuts Out Eastside

khts_sportsThe West Ranch football team shut out Eastside, 35-0, and won its third game in a row.

Running back Jeff Coprich rushed for 100 yards and scored a touchdown.

Zahr Lyttle and Jake Miura each scored two touchdowns for West Ranch.

The Canyon football team piled on Knight, 56-7, and improved to 2-0 on the season. Quarterback Jonathan Jerozal threw four touchdown passes and was 15-of-24 for 231 yards.

Receiver Drew Wolitarsky caught three touchdown passes. Running back Max Archuleta rushed for 104 yards and scored two touchdowns.

The Saugus football team beat Buena, 34-32, behind a three-touchdown game from quarterback Jared Carbajal. He rushed for 207 yards.

Saugus sophomore Dakota Taylor ended Buena’s last drive of the game with an interception in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

The Valencia football team lost to Chaminade, 14-10, and blew another first-half lead. The Vikings were up 7-0 at halftime, but Chaminade scored two touchdowns in the second half to win the game.

Ryan Gorman scored the only touchdown for Valencia.

Vasquez won its first game of the season, 44-6, over Santa Clarita Christian. Gino Campos rushed for 179 yards and scored two touchdowns for Vasquez.

The Trinity Classical Academy football team rallied in the second half to beat Immanuel Christian, 34-30. Trinity scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to erase an 18-point deficit.

In college football, the College of the Canyons beat Citrus College, 31-22, to win its second game of the season. Quarterback Chris Rini passed for 295 yards and three touchdowns for COC.

In baseball, the Angels beat the Orioles, 11-2, behind a record-setting day by Erick Aybar. He scored a team-record five runs and homered twice for the Angels.

But the Rangers shut out the Mariners, 3-0, and maintained their lead in the American League West standings. The Rangers are 4 ½ games ahead of the Angels.
