West Ranch Girls Soccer Team Shuts Out Ventura

khts_sportsThe West Ranch girls soccer team scored two goals in the second half and shut out Ventura, 3-0.

Valerie Mercado and Kendall Moskal each scored for West Ranch in the second half.

Taylor Ayers gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead just before halftime.

The Hart boys soccer team blanked Alemany, 1-0, behind a second-half goal from Edwin Medina.

The Canyon boys lost to Crespi, 1-0.

The Trinity Classical Academy boys soccer team beat Westmark, 4-0. Michael Stratton scored a goal and had two assists. Four different players scored for Trinity.

In boys basketball, Canyon beat Highland, 63-52, behind 23 points and six rebounds from Clay Kasdorf. Coley Apsay had 21 points and five rebounds.

The Golden Valley girls beat Santa Paula, 86-45. Theresa Ohaya had a monster game with 36 points, 24 rebounds and six steals.

Janae Dean had 34 points and 21 rebounds for Golden Valley. The Grizzlies are back on the court again tonight against Grace Brethren.

It’s a busy night of basketball for area teams. The Canyon and Hart girls start play in the Burroughs Tournament today.

Inglewood is in town for a game against the Saugus girls tonight.

On the boys side, Hart and Golden Valley are in the San Fernando Valley Invitational that starts today.

Saugus continues in the La Canada Tournament. The Centurions have won their first two games in the tournament.

The West Ranch boys are in the Crespi Tournament.

In hockey, the Kings scored twice in the third period and beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 2-1, to snap a five-game losing streak.

Justin Brown scored the game-winner and had an assist on a goal by Davis Drewiske that tied the game.

The Kings are still in search of a new head coach. Interim head coach John Stevens earned his first win.
