West Ranch Girls Volleyball Team Hands Valencia First League Loss Of Season

khts_sportsThe West Ranch girls volleyball team beat Valencia in five games and improved to 4-1 in Foothill League play.

West Ranch won the first two games of the match, but Valencia bounced back to win Games 3 and 4. The first four games went to the limit, with West Ranch winning the first, 26-24, and Valencia winning the third, 27-25. West Ranch won the fifth and final game, 15-10.

West Ranch’s Hannah Orlandi recorded a team-high 27 kills. Teammate Sarah McGough had 13 kills.

Emily Elias had 11 kills and seven blocks for Valencia, which lost its first league match of the season. Setter Tani Slauson recorded 41 assists.

The Saugus girls volleyball team swept Golden Valley in three games. Setter Ashley Guthrie had 30 assists and Jaclyn Clark had 10 kills.

West Ranch, Valencia and Saugus are tied for first place in the Foothill League standings with 4-1 records.

The Hart girls volleyball team beat Canyon in four games. Brittani Elser led Hart with 10 kills and teammate Anissa Robinson had six kills, seven blocks and four aces. Canyon’s Khrista Prudencio had a team-high six kills for Canyon.

The Santa Clarita Chrisitan girls volleyball team beat Hillcrest Chrisitan in three games. Natalie Keoshian led Santa Clarita Christian with nine kills. Setter Joanna Masopust had 29 assiusts.

The Dodgers and pitcher Ted Lilly have a deal that will keep the lefty in LA for the next three seasons.

Lilly and the Dodgers agreed to a three-year deal for a reported $33 million. Lilly will join Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley in the Dodgers rotation next season.

In the National League Championship Series, the San Francisco Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-0, and have a 2-1 lead in the series.

Giants starter Matt Cain tossed seven shutout innings and gave up only two hits.

In the American League Championship Series, the Texas Rangers are up three games to one over the New York Yankees after a 10-3 win.

Rangers catcher Bengie Molina hit a three-run home run and Josh Hamilton hit a pair of solo home runs.

The Rangers are one win away from making their first World Series appearance in franchise history.

In hockey, the Kings host the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at Staples Center. The Kings are 3-1 and have won their past two games.

The Hurricanes are coming off a 5-2 win last night against the San Jose Sharks.
