The West Ranch baseball team beat the Spartans, 8-3, in the first round of the Valley Invitational Baseball League playoffs.
The top-seeded Wildcats move on to play Agoura in the second round on Friday.
In other games, Hart upset Loyola, 3-2, and will play fourth-seeded Harvard-Westlake in the second round. Harvard-Westlake beat Golden Valley, 8-2, in the first round.
Saugus beat the Gas House Gang, 2-1, and will play Burroughs in the second round.
Canyon and Valencia did not make it out of the first round. Canyon lost to Woodland Hills West, 5-1, and Valencia lost to the Braves, 5-4.
The second-round playoff games are set to start at 5 on Friday night.
In the major leagues, the Angels scored six runs in the sixth inning to rally past the Rangers, 9-8, and snap the Rangers’ 12-game winning streak.
In other games, the Blue Jays beat the Mariners, 11-6, and the A’s beat the Tigers 7-5.
The Red Sox shut out the Orioles, 4-0, the Twins beat the Indians, 7-5, the Yankees blanked the Rays, 4-0, and the Royals beat the White Sox, 2-1, in 11 innings.
In the National League, the Brewers needed extra innings, beating the Diamondbacks, 5-2, in 10, the Rockies slipped past the Braves, 3-2, and the Padres pounded the Marlins, 14-3.
The Reds beat the Pirates, 3-1, the Astros beat the Nationals, 3-2, in 11 innings, the Phillies beat the Cubs, 9-1, and the Mets beat the Cardinals, 6-5, in 10 innings.
