West Ranch Homers Its Way To Hart Softball Tournament Title

khts_sportsThe West Ranch softball team hit six home runs against Camarillo and won the Hart tournament at Central Park.

The Wildcats hit three homers in the first inning en route to a 9-1 win in the championship game.

All six homers were inside-the-parkers. Kylie Sorenson and Janelle Lindvall each hit two. They hit solo home runs in the first inning. Julia Lombardi also hit a solo home run in the first inning to give West Ranch a 3-0 lead.

Sorenson was selected as the tournament MVP. She hit three home runs and drove in 12 runs in the tournament.

West Ranch beat Chaminade, 3-2, in the semifinals to reach the championship game.

The Hart softball team lost the third-place game of the Hart tournament to El Camino Real, 7-3. Tracy Chandless hit a three-run triple for Hart in the fifth inning.

Hart lost to Camarillo, 7-3, in the semifinals of the tournament.

The Canyon softball team lost to Agoura, 7-6, in the consolation final of the Hart tournament. Lexi Lotito hit a two-run home run and was 3-for-3 against Agoura.

Canyon beat Lancaster, 11-6, in the consolation semifinal. Kaelie Doyle hit two two-run home runs.

In baseball, the Dodgers shut out the Chicago Cubs, 5-0, in a Cactus League game in Arizona. Dodgers starter Ted Lilly went three innings, gave up only one hit and no runs.

The Dodgers play the Angels later on today.

In ice hockey, Hart High senior Joey Cicoria won the Pacific District U18 championship playing for the L.A. Junior Kings at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.

The Junior Kings beat the Alaska Wolves, 4-3, in overtime and advance to the USA Hockey national championship tournament.

The College of the Canyons ice hockey team is headed to the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division III national tournament as the reigning champion.

The tournament starts on Wednesday in New Jersey. COC opens against Davenport University from Michigan in pool play.

In the NHL, the Kings ended their four-game road trip with a 3-2 shootout win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Jeff Carter scored a goal for the Kings in regulation, his 19th of the season, and Mike Richards scored the only goal in the shootout.

The Kings went 2-2 on their road trip and will play the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night at Staples Center.
