West Ranch Hosts CIF Baseball, Softball Playoff Games

Three baseball teams from the Foothill League are in action today in the first round of the CIF playoffs.

West Ranch, the Foothill League co-champion, is home against Los Alamitos, the third-place team from the Sunset League in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Canyon has one of the more interesting matchups. The Cowboys, the co-champions of the Foothill League, are on the road against Loyola. Canyon already beat Loyola once this season in the Anaheim Lions Tournament.

The Valencia baseball team is up against Harvard-Westlake, the No. 3 seeded team in the Division 1 playoffs. Valencia beat Westlake in the wild-card round to advance.

In the softball playoffs, the West Ranch girls will look to continue their dominant season in round one of the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

The Wildcats, winners of the Foothill League with a perfect 10-0 record, plays Rancho Cucamonga at West Ranch High today.

If West Ranch beats Rancho Cucamonga, Mater Dei, the No. 5 team in the nation, awaits the Wildcats in the second round.

The Saugus softball team is on the road against Orange Lutheran.

The Albert Einstein Academy softball team travels to Coast Union for its first-round game in the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs.

In baseball, the Dodgers beat the visiting Washington Nationals, 3-1, in Zach Greinke’s return from the disabled list.

He gave up one run on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He also drove in the eventual game-winning run in the second inning.

In the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Kings will look to go up two games to none in the Western Conference semifinals against the San Jose Sharks tonight.

The Kings won the first game of the series, 2-0.
