West Ranch Moves Into First Place In Valley Invitational Baseball League

khts_sportsThe West Ranch baseball team is in first place in the Valley Invitational Baseball League with a 10-7 win over Montclair Prep.

JC Cloney, Jagger Rusconi and Justin Hovis each drove in two runs for West Ranch.

West Ranch is 14-2 in the summer baseball league and is a half-game ahead of Valley North in the standings.

In other games, Hart beat Agoura, 6-5, Valencia beat the Spartans, 15-7, Saugus lost to Quartz Hill, 2-1, and Golden Valley lost to Moorpark, 16-4.

In women’s soccer, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat can wrap up the United Soccer League Western Conference with a win over the LA Strikers tonight at Canyon High School.

The Blue Heat are coming off a three-game road trip and a 1-1-1 record.

The game against the Strikers starts at 7.

In baseball , the National League beat the American League, 5-1, in the Major League All Star Game. Prince Fielder of the Milwaukee Brewers hit a three-run home run and earned MVP honors.

Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp singled and scored on Fielder’s homer in the fourth inning. Andre Ethier, the other Dodger all-star outfielder, singled and drove in a run.

After the game, the Dodgers acquired outfielder Juan Rivera from the Toronto Blue Jays for a player to be named later. Rivera, a former Angels outfielder, is batting .243 with six home runs and 28 RBIs.

To make room for Rivera on the roster, the Dodgers designated Marcus Thames for assignment. Thames was hitting .197 with two homers and seven RBIs.
