West Ranch Reaches Quarterfinals Of Foothill Invitational Girls Volleyball Tournament

The West Ranch girls volleyball team reached the quarterfinals of the Foothill Invitational tournament at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex. The Centurions lost to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

Chaparral defeated Notre Dame, 2-0, in the championship match.

The Hart girls volleyball team finished in ninth place in the tournament in the Invitational Division. The Indians defeated Sunnyside of Fresno, 2-1, in the ninth-place match.

Burroughs from Burbank won the Festival Division championship over Quartz Hill at Saugus High School.

In swimming, Hart High graduate Anthony Ervin was sixth in the 50-meter freestyle at the FINA Swimming World Championships in Spain.

Cesar Cielo from Brazil won the gold medal in the 50 freestyle in 21.32 seconds. Ervin touched the wall in 21.65 seconds.

In golf, Valencia High graduate Alison Lee has been selected to play in the PING Junior Solheim Cup in Colorado.

The international tournament pits the top 12 junior golfers from the United States against a team from Europe.

Lee is No. 1 in the Polo Golf rankings and a five-time Rolex Junior All American.

The Junior Solheim Cup is at the Inverness Hotel & Golf Club in Englewood, Colo.

In baseball, the Dodgers shut out the Chicago Cubs, 1-0, and completed the four-game series sweep on the road.

The Dodgers have won a franchise record 14 straight games on the road. They will look to continue their road winning streak in St. Louis against the Cardinals tonight.

Zack Greinke will start for the Dodgers. Adam Wainright starts for the Cardinals.
