Four baseball teams from the Santa Clarita Valley will be in action today in the Valley Invitational Baseball League. Birmingham is at Hart, Cleveland is at Saugus and Kennedy is at Valencia. All games are scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

West Ranch is on the road for a night game at 7 against St. Francis at Brookside Park. West Ranch was the only team from the Santa Clarita Valley to win its first game of the summer league season.

Pitcher Trevor Fredrickson, who helped lead West Ranch into the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division I playoffs, will continue his baseball career at Cal State Northridge.

The Major League Baseball draft began yesterday with the Dodgers taking Aaron Miller, a left-handed pitcher and outfielder from Baylor University, with their first pick. Reports indicate that the Dodgers want Miller to play the outfield, most likely in right field.

The Dodgers also selected Blake Smith, an outfielder from UC Berkeley, and a couple right-handed pitchers. They selected Garrett Gould, a high school prospect from Kansas, and Brett Wallach from Orange Coast College.

The draft resumes today when a number of high school players from the Santa Clarita Valley are expected to be selected.
