West Ranch Softball Team Downs Rancho Cucamonga In First Round Of CIF Playoffs

The West Ranch softball team beat Rancho Cucamonga, 4-1, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Kylie Sorenson was 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Charlotte Romero drove in a run in the second inning. Keeley Walsh had an RBI single in the fifth inning and Mollie Sorenson knocked in a run with a triple in the sixth inning.

West Ranch will play Foothill, which upset second-seeded Mater Dei, in the second round of playoffs on Tuesday.

The Saugus softball team lost to Orange Lutheran, 2-1, in the first round of the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. Orange Lutheran scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Saugus starter Mariah Lopez gave up two runs on six hits and struck out six in 6 1/3 innings.

In baseball, Santa Clarita Christian is moving on in the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs after a 23-6 victory over Delphi Academy at The Master’s College.

Clint Ross was 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park, two-run home run, and drove in four runs for Santa Clarita Christian.

West Ranch lost a see-saw game to visiting Los Alamitos, 6-5, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Tyler Woldanski hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Wildcats a 5-3 lead. But Los Alamitos scored three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead and win the game.

The Valencia baseball team lost to Harvard-Westlake, 7-1, in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs.

Devon Davis hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for the only run for the Vikings.

Harvard-Westlake is the No. 3 seeded team in the Division 1 playoffs.

The Canyon baseball team lost to Loyola, 8-5, in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs.

The Trinity Classical Academy baseball team lost to Coast Union, 6-4, in the first round of the Division 7 playoffs.

In auto racing, the second race at the quarter mile track at Willow Springs International Raceway is Saturday night.

Randy Wilkins won the late model main event on opening night last month. He is the leader in the late model standings at Willow Springs.

Street stocks, hobby stocks, mini stocks and bombers will also be in action Saturday night.

In the NHL playoffs, the Kings scored two goals in the final two minutes to beat the San Jose Sharks, 4-3, in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals.

Dustin Brown scored the game-tying goal with 1:43 to play in the game. Trevor Lewis scored the game-winner less than a minute later on a power play.

The Kings are up 2-0. Game 3 is in San Jose on Saturday.

In baseball, the Dodgers are in Atlanta to start a weekend series with the Braves. The Dodgers have won four of their past five games, but they are still in last place in the National League West.

Hyun-Jin Ryu starts for the Dodgers against Paul Malholm for the Braves.
