West Ranch Softball Team Slips Past Saugus

sportswestranchThe West Ranch softball team scored a run in the top of the seventh inning and beat Saugus, 3-2. Bailey Foster drove in the game-winning run on a slow infield grounder that scored Madison Vogelsang.

Janelle Lindvall got West Ranch on the scoreboard first with a solo home run in the first inning.

Saugus scored two runs in the sixth inning to tie the game. Randi Jossett drove in a run with a double and Cassie Herrera knocked in the other run with a single.

The Valencia softball team ran its record to a perfect 6-0 in Foothill League play with a 19-2 win over Golden Valley. Megan Foglesong and Annie Dreher each had three hits, hit a home run and drove in four runs for Valencia.

The Hart softball team beat Canyon, 6-3, and Tracy Chandless hit a grand slam.

Brittany Williams drove in two runs for Canyon.

The Valencia boys volleyball team beat Golden Valley in three games to win its 90th straight Foothill League match. Daniel Johnson had a team-high seven kills and Broc Oppler had six kills for Valencia.

The Saugus boys volleyball team beat West Ranch in four games. Matt Coleman and T.J. Jeffris each had 12 kills for Saugus.

The Hart boys volleyball team swept Canyon, 3-0. Taylor Gregory had 11 kills and seven blocks to lead Hart.

In youth soccer, the AYSO Region 678 boys U14 team won the Showdown Tournament. The team went 4-0 in the tournament and had two shutouts.

The College of the Canyons baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to squeak out a 15-14 win over Citrus College.
Kenny Shanahan hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to end the game. He also hit a two-run home run in a five-run eighth inning. Shanahan was 2-for-5 and drove in four runs.

COC’s Tyler Pugmire was 2-for-4, drove in three runs and scored three runs. Robert Vickers reached base six times, with four walks and two singles, and scored four runs.

The Master’s College baseball team beat Biola, 6-2. Steve Vranau hit a solo home run in the second inning and Jared Otto was 2-for-4 with an RBI for The Master’s College.

David Goodenough pitched a complete game, scattering nine hits and striking out six.

The Lakers can wrap up their first-round NBA playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight. The Lakers are up three games to two and are coming off an impressive win in Game 5. But that was in their comfy digs at Staples Center. Playing in Oklahoma City has been a challenge for the Lakers. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30.

The Dodgers lost to the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-0, collecting only four hits against a pitcher with an ERA over nine. It was the third time the Dodgers were shutout in their past five games. It was also the Dodgers fifth loss in a row.

The Dodgers send Chad Billingsley to the mound against Charlie Morton for the Pirates. Morton is 0-4 with a 16.20 ERA. If the Dodgers can’t score some runs on him, it might be time to call up some minor leaguers.
