The West Ranch baseball team improved to 6-0 in the Valley Invitational Baseball League over the weekend. West Ranch beat the Spartans, 11-3, behind a three RBI day from Josh Heinz.
Cody Bennett won his third game of the summer league and Justin Hovis had four hits for West Ranch.
In other games, Saugus beat Burroughs, 7-3, to win its third game of the summer. Golden Valley beat Campbell Hall, 14-6, Hart lost to Royal, 8-2 and Canyon lost to Burbank, 3-2.

In auto racing, KHTS’s own Jason Galvin won the Open Comp race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night. He was driving a car owned by Rich De Long of Santa Clarita. Galvin, who lives in Valencia, is also one of the track announcers at Toyota Speedway.
De Long had a good night at the race track too. He finished third in the Super Stocks race and maintained his lead in the Super Stocks standings at the track. Gerrit Cromsigt of Saugus was second in the Super Stocks race.
In golf, Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland became the youngest player since World War II to win a US Open, shooting a 2-under par 69 in the final round at Congressional Country Club in Maryland.
He was 16-under par for the tournament and finished eight shots ahead of Jason Day.
In baseball, the Dodgers shut out the Astros, 1-0, and snapped a five-game losing streak. Dioneer Navarro hit a solo home run in the eighth inning and Dodger starter Hiroki Kuroda tossed seven shut-out innings, giving up only three hits and striking out six.
In other games, the A’s beat the Giants, 2-1, the Rockies lost to the Tigers, 9-1, the Diamondbacks lost to the White Sox, 8-2, and the Twins beat the Padres, 5-4.
The Angels won the rubber game in New York against the Mets, 7-3. The Braves beat the Rangers, 4-2, and the Mariners shut out the Phillies, 2-0.
The Indians beat the Pirates, 5-2 in 11 innings, the Reds squeaked past the Blue Jays, 2-1, the Red Sox pounded the Brewers, 12-3, the Orioles beat the Nationals, 7-4 and the Rays beat the Marlins, 2-1.
The Cardinals beat the the Royals, 5-4, and the Yankees rallied late and beat the Cubs, 10-4.
