The Valencia and West Ranch baseball teams are ranked in the top 10 of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll.
Valencia is No. 7 and West Ranch is No. 8. Harvard-Westlake is the top-ranked team in Division 1.
West Ranch, the reigning Foothill League champion, has a four-game winning streak and begins league play against Canyon on Wednesday.
Valencia has a 4-1 record and plays Golden Valley on Wednesday. West Ranch and Valencia meet on Friday.
The Valencia softball team is ranked No. 10 in the Southern Section Division 1 poll. Saugus is listed among others and just outside the top 10. Norco is the No. 1 team in Division 1.
The Trinity Classical Academy softball team is No. 7 in the Division 7 poll. Rolling Hills Prep is the top-ranked team in Division 7.
In college track and field, Jason Logan from The Master’s College won the high jump at the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton. He won the event in a jump-off and cleared 6 feet, 10 inches.
John Gilbertson was second in the 5,000 for The Master’s College. He completed the race in 14 minutes, 2.26 seconds.
Ayla Draper and Karis Frankian qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships at the Ben Brown Invitational.
Draper was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 63.85 seconds and earned a spot in the national meet.
Frankian set a school record in the 5,000 in 17 minutes, 15.14 seconds and also qualified for the national meet.
Next up for The Master’s College track and field team is the Occidental Relays in Eagle Rock on Friday.
In high school swimming, the Valencia boys and girls teams won the Santa Clarita Invitational at the Aquatics Center.
Maliah Grim won 100-yard breaststroke and the Valencia girls won the 200-yard medley relay.
On the boys side, Jack Kerchner won the 50-yard freestyle and Nelson Guzman won the 200-yard individual medley for Valencia.
In the NHL, the Kings beat the visiting Calgary Flames, 3-1, at Staples Center. Dustin Brown scored two goals and Jake Muzzin had two assists for the Kings.
The Kings took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Brown added an empty netter in the third.
The Kings are in Phoenix for a game against the Coyotes tonight. Listen to the game on AM 1220, KHTS. The puck drops at 7.
