West Ranch, Valencia Boys Basketball Teams Improve To 2-0 In Foothill League

The West Ranch boys basketball team improved to 2-0 in Foothill League play with a 62-48 win over Canyon.

Kevin Harris had another big game for West Ranch, scoring 19 points and making 7-of-9 shots from the field. Ako Kaluna scored 11 points and had nine blocks for the Wildcats.

Ben Taufahema led Canyon with 12 points. Teammate Mark Bell scored 11.

The Valencia boys basketball team kept pace with West Ranch by winning its second Foothill League game of the season.

The Vikings beat Golden Valley, 65-61, at Valencia High School.

 Riley Honaker scored 14 points, eight in the fourth quarter, to lead Valencia to its second league win. Garrett Mike scored 16 points and Angel Cardenas had 11.

Kourbine Lee scored 16 points to lead Golden Valley.

The Hart boys basketball team won its first league game, 78-76 in overtime, against Saugus. The Indians won their first 16 games and are ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3AAA poll, but lost their league opener to West Ranch last week.

Myles Franklin and Lewis Stallworth combined for 63 of Hart’s points. Stallworth led the way with 33. Franklin scored 30, 14 in the fourth quarter.

Chris Lockwood scored 14 points and Jeff Ashburn scored 13 for Saugus.

The Canyon girls basketball team is 2-0 in Foothill League play after a 57-38 win over West Ranch.

Alia McCoy scored 17 points and had seven steals for Canyon.

The Valencia girls basketball team also improved to 2-0 in the Foothill League with a 74-34 win over Golden Valley. Kalia Summerlin and Jennifer Anumba each scored 14 points for Valencia.

The Saugus girls basketball team beat Hart, 58-48. Faye Osburn scored 18 points to lead Saugus.

In high school soccer, the Hart girls handed Saugus its first loss of the season, 2-1, at Hart High.

Laura Sega and Jenny Chavez each scored for Hart. Ally Perez assisted on Chavez’s goal.

Saugus entered the game with a 16-game unbeaten streak at 15-0-1. Hart has won nine of its past 10 games.

The Canyon and West Ranch girls played to a scoreless draw.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls tied Thacher, 1-1.

On the boys side, West Ranch beat Canyon, 2-1. Wade McMillon and Ian Klein each scored for West Ranch.

Hart doubled up on Saugus, 4-2. Nico Ferrero scored two goals for Hart.

The Valencia boys shut out Golden Valley, 2-0.

In the NBA, the Lakers beat the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers, 113-93, and ended their six-game losing streak.
