The West Ranch girls tennis team moved into the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs with a 15-3 win over Marlborough.

The Fuentes sisters, Ana Lucia and Ana Cecilia, swept their singles matches for West Ranch, the top-seeded team in the Division III playoffs.

West Ranch is at home to play Santiago Corona in the quarterfinals today.

The Valencia girls, the No. 2 seed in the Division III playoffs, are also in the quarterfinals. Behind singles sweeps from sisters Emily and Clarice Fraczek, Valencia beat Oaks Christian, 15-3, at Pepperdine in the second round of the tennis playoffs.

Valencia is on the road to take on Lakewood in the quarterfinals.

The Hart girls tennis team saw its season come to an end with an 11-7 loss to St. Margaret’s in the second round.

Six cross country teams from the Foothill League qualified for the CIF Southern Section finals next weekend and a chance to advance to the state finals.

The Saugus boys and girls cross country teams, both ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division II polls, earned spots in the Southern Section finals after winning their heats in the prelims at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

Stephanie Bulder from Saugus won her heat race. She was followed by teammates Kaylin Mahoney and Karis Frankian to capture the top-three spots in the heat race.

The Saugus boys took five of the top 20 spots in their heat race. Robert Pion was the highest-finishing runner from Saugus in seventh place.

The Golden Valley, Canyon and Hart boys cross country teams also qualified for the Southern Section finals. The Golden Valley girls will join the Saugus girls cross country team in the Southern Section finals.

Sarah Adams from Valencia qualified for the Southern Section finals as an individual runner. The Valencia girls cross country team did not qualify.

The College of the Canyons women’s golf team is leading the California Community College Athletic Association state championship at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.

COC shot 330 as a team and has a three-stroke lead after the first day of the two-day state final. Sacramento City College is in second, Irvine Valley is five shots back in third and Modesto is 33 shots off the lead in fourth.

Taylor Gould shot the low round for COC on Day 1 of the tournament. She posted a 3-over par, 77.

The second and final day of the state final is set to start this morning at 10.

The Dodgers and starter Hiroki Kuroda have agreed to a one-year deal that will most likely keep the Japanese pitcher in the rotation for one more season.

The deal is worth a reported $12 million. Kuroda was a free agent and opted to re-sign with the Dodgers. He was 11-13 with a 3.39 ERA and 159 strikeouts last year with the Dodgers. He established career highs in victories, ERA, innings pitched and strikeouts in 2010.

The Kings lost to the San Jose Sharks, 6-3, and saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.

It was the third win in a row for the Sharks. Patrick Marleau had a goal and two assists in the win.

Ryan Smyth, Scott Parse and Jarret Stoll each scored a goal for the Kings.

The Kings are back home at Staples Center on Wednesday night for a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
