West Ranch Wins Valley Invitational Baseball League Championship

sportswestranchThe West Ranch baseball team won its first Valley Invitational Baseball League championship over the weekend. Cody Howard pitched four shutout innings in a 7-1 win over Agoura in the championship game at Birmingham High School.

Allen Sarkissian got the save the hard way, pitching the final three innings.

Randy Poe and Michael Alvarez each had two hits for West Ranch.


In swimming, the Canyons Aquatics Club team won the Southern California Swimming Junior Olympics on Sunday.

The Canyons girls team won its meet and the boys team finished second to the Swim Pasadena team.

Maggie Hanson paced the Canyons girls team with wins in the 15-and-over 200-meter and 100-meter butterfly races.

Bob Hwang won three events for the Canyons boys team. He won the 15-and-over 50, 100 and 200-meter freestyle races.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
