West Ranch’s JJ Holen Falls In Match Play At US Amateur Golf Championship

khts_sportsWest Ranch graduate JJ Holen advanced to the third round of the US Amateur Public Links golf championship and lost in match play.

Holen made the cut for the match play portion of the tournament at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon by shooting a 10-over par in the first two rounds. The top-64 players in first 36 holes of stroke play advanced to the match play part of the tournament.

Holen lost 2 and 1 to Paul McConnell from Garland, Texas.

Hart’s Kendall Dusenberry did not make the cut after the first two rounds in the women’s portion of the US Amateur Public Links golf championship.

The Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team will look to stay undefeated against the Colorado Rush at Valencia High School tonight.

The Blue Heat have won six games in a row including 3-1 over the Colorado Force on Tuesday night.

The Blue Heat are 7-0-1 and in second place in the United Soccer League Western Conference standings. They are two points behind the Vancouver White Caps.

The game between the Blue Heat and the Rush starts at 7.

In baseball, the Dodgers wasted a brilliant performance by rookie starter Rubby De La Rosa. He gave up only one run on six hits in seven innings, but lost to the Twins, 1-0.

The Dodgers mustered only seven hits, six of them singles, lost their second game in a row and dropped to last place in the National League West standings.

In other games, the Padres beat the Royals, 4-1, the Diamondbacks lost to the Indians, 6-2, the Cubs beat the Giants, 2-1 and the Rockies lost to the White Sox, 3-2.

The Angels completed the sweep of the visiting Washington Nationals winning 1-0 behind a strong start from Dan Haren. He pitched into the eighth inning and struck out six.

The Mariners lost to the Braves, 5-3, the Rangers beat the Astros, 3-2, and the Marlins shut out the A’s 3-0.

The Blue Jays beat the Pirates, 2-1, the Reds beat the Rays, 4-3, the Phillies beat the Red Sox, 2-1, the Cardinals beat the Orioles, 5-1, the Mets pounded the Tigers, 16-9, and the Yankees downed the Brewers, 5-2.
