In the NBA playoffs, the Lakers won Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, beating the Phoenix Suns, 128-107. Kobe Bryant scored 40 points and Lamar Odom had 19 points and 19 rebounds for the Lakers.

The Dodgers beat the Houston Astros, 6-2. It was the eighth straight win for the Dodgers. After a slow start to the season, the Dodgers are 12-3 in May.
