Santa Clarita Symphony Goes Wild

Animal themed music to highlight Saturday’s concert.

Saturday evening at 5:00pm, the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center will host “Animals Alive,” 65-minute concert, designed to educate and entertain children.

The show will feature Carnival of the Animals, French composer Camille Saint-Saëns’ witty musical salute to feathers, fur and fin.

This zoological program features 14 different movements – each one a different animal – from the first movement of “March of the Royal Lion” through portraits of Elephants, Donkeys and Swans.

A Special guest narrator will charm the young audience with the whimsical verses of Ogden Nash, as child actors (the animals) from the Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts bring the show to life.

During all of this activity the Symphony Orchestra will demonstrate and explain to children how instruments are playing to characterize the different animals.

Each child in attendance will receive a special Carnival of the Animal Coloring Book courtesy of Union Bank of California that includes an easy-to-follow listening guide.

The program, which also includes Greensleeves, Mozart Concerto No. 3, and Ernest Bloch Piano Concerto Grosso, will feature performances by featured virtuoso youth pianists Tyler Linahan and Alex Mansour.

Tickets run $20, and can be purchased at www.scsymphony.com.
