Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives have arrested a man suspected of strangling his 18 year-old girlfriend in Santa Clarita Sunday night.

According to Lieutenant Dave Coleman, 22 year-old Edwin Ortiz flagged down two California Highway Patrol officers Sunday evening and exclaimed that his girlfriend might be dead. He brought the officers to a residence at the Granada Villa mobile home park on Soledad Canyon Rd. near Sierra Highway where Guadalupe Chaman was found dead in her room.

Homicide detectives believe that Chaman’s death may have been caused by strangulation, and Lt. Coleman reported that after a subsequent investigation Ortiz was identified as a suspect and arrested.

William S. Hart School District officials have confirmed that Chaman was enrolled at Bowman High school and set to enter her senior year. Previously, she had attended Golden Valley High and La Mesa Jr. High schools.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
