Santa Clarita to Host Cultural Night

Friday, December 8, 2006 the City of Santa Clarita will host a community cultural night designed to showcase the rich cultural tapestry of Santa Clarita with dance and food from the hours of 6 to 8 p.m. The event will be held at the City of Santa Clarita Community Center , located at 22421 Market Street in Newhall. The event is free of charge. For further information about the event, one may contact Cynthia Llerenas at (661) 259-2489. “The community center will come alive with Latin, Polynesian, and Ballet Folklorico dancing, just to name a few, this Friday evening as the City of Santa Clarita continues to celebrate A Season of Diversity,” said City of Santa Clarita staff member Cynthia Llerenas. “In addition to the dance portion of the evening, there will be a puppet show designed especially for children, sharing the very special story of three children from different countries who become friends as a new boy moves into a culturally diverse neighborhood; Tae Kwon Do demonstrations, crafts, games, contests and door prizes. Foods from around the world will be available as well.”

According to event organizers, this is the 3rd Annual Culture Night sponsored by the City of Santa Clarita Human Relations Forum , which works to promote positive human relations and acceptance of all people in every aspect of community life. With the goal to make Santa Clarita a place where all people can live and work peacefully with a better understanding of each other and the value of diversity. According to Jonathan Kraut, human relations forum member, over 2,500 people of all ages have attended the 2006 City of Santa Clarita Season of Diversity events thus far.

“This year the Forum hosted 16 community events for people of all ages, designed to educate the public about cultural acceptance,” said Kraut. “We have a very active Human Relations Forum and they take serving the community very seriously. The Human Relations forum meets at 4:00 PM on the second Tuesday of each month at the Santa Clarita Activities Center. Members of the community are welcome to attend.”
