Santa Clarita city officials are welcoming public input at a meeting about a possible library location in Saugus, city officials said Monday.

The meeting, which is being hosted by the Citizen’s Public Library Advisory Committee and Saugus Action Committee, will start Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Old Town Newhall Library Community Room.

The plan to locate a library in Saugus is one that’s been discussed for a while, with city officials budgeting community outreach in Santa Clarita’s 2014-15 spending plan, said city spokeswoman Gail Morgan, in a previous interview.

The community outreach will help the city determine whether residents “even want a library in Saugus, what the best place would be (for) that,” Morgan said in January. “Each community that we’ve worked with has come up with different things that they want.”

The city has yet to identify a location for the site, Morgan said. The preliminary phases of the process, which will begin Tuesday, identifying community need.

A library consulting firm is expected to give a presentation first, followed by a discussion about a strategic plan for outreach on the library, which is expected to be led by Library Systems & Services, or LSSI.

LSSI is the company Santa Clarita contracts with to run its three existing library locations in Newhall, Canyon Country and Valencia.

Details about the presentation were not listed on the meeting’s 29-word agenda, or immediately available from city of Santa Clarita officials.

More information about Tuesday’s meeting will be added as it becomes available.
