Santa Clarita To Look At City-Funded Arts, Service Programs

Santa Clarita city officials are set to look at almost $150,000 in community services and arts grants for the 2014-15 fiscal year at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

Santa Clarita city councilmembers increased the budget for the Community Services and Arts Grants program from $120,000 to $150,000 for this year’s budget, with $90,000 for set for community services and $60,000 for arts programs.

City officials received 30 Community Service Grant and Arts Grant applications, with grant requests totaling $144,504.

The funding priority for the arts was “community benefit” and and chose to continue previous funding limits of $5,000 per grant award.

This year’s proposed grant program will fund 20 Community Services Grant applications. The Community Service Grant Committee also chose to continue previous funding limits of $7,500 per grant award.

This year’s Grant Committee for the Community Services Grants included Mayor Marsha McLean, Councilmember Laurene Weste, Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Commission Chair Ruthann Levison and city staff from the Finance Division, City Manager’s Office and Public Works Department.
