Santa Clarita Valley Deputies Release Weekly Crime Reports

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies have released the crime reports for the week of Feb. 23- Mar.1.

California State University, Northridge and LAPD officials reported shots fired near the university on Thursday.

One of three Santa Clarita men accused of a 2011 robbery-murder in Canyon Country is due back in court in April to begin his retrial, officials said.

Burbank Police officers have arrested a Santa Clarita man suspected of stabbing two in a Tuesday night attack with three victims, officials said.

Santa Clarita officials are working with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials to promote their new “Lock it or Lose it” campaign, officials said Tuesday.

KHTS publishes crime reports in alphabetical order by community as they are made available.

Here are the crime reports for Canyon Country East, Canyon Country West, Castaic/ Val Verde, Saugus, Newhall and Stevenson Ranch.

Canyon Country East

A residential burglary occurred near the 18000 block of Annes Circle. Two suspect were seen running away from the victim after she saw one of them attempting to enter her residence through a bedroom Santa Clarita Valley Deputies Offer Caution On Heat-Related Crimeswindow. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A residential burglary occurred near the 17800 block of Sierra Hwy. Two suspects were arrested after they were seen inside the victim’s residence.  All the property was returned.

This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

Two thefts from an unlocked vehicle occurred near the 27100 block of Silver Oak Lane.  Three suspects were seen ransacking two vehicles which were parked near the above location. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred near the 17900 block of Sierra Highway. Person(s) unknown stole the victim’s bicycle while it was parked unsecured in a parking lot. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

Canyon Country West 

A residential burglary occurred near the 19800 block of Pandy Court.  Person(s) unknown entered the residence by unknown means and stole jewelry from within. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A residential burglary occurred near the 26800 block of Claudette Street. Person(s) unknown entered the victims garage by unknown means and stole items from within. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives. 

A commercial burglary occurred near the 20600 block of Soledad Canyon Road. Person(s) unknown smashed the front window to the location and stole the cash register from within.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A petty theft occurred near the 26400 block of City Light Court. Person(s) unknown siphoned approximately five gallons of gasoline from the victims vehicle. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

Castaic/ Val Verde

A commercial burglary was reported from the 28000 block of Industry Drive. Approximately $5,000 worth of Italian cowhide was stolen from the location. There were no signs of forced entry to the location.

A theft was reported from the 28000 block of Witherspoon Drive. Suspects took a “Hitachi” grass cutter and four “Purefire” trimmers from an open, unlocked storage container outside the business. The estimated value of the items was around $2,000.

A theft was reported from the 30000 block of Bayfield Drive. The victim reported a “Craftsman” two-ton jack, battery charger and miscellaneous tools stolen from his back yard.  The estimated value of the items was $600.

A theft was reported from the 31000 block of Castaic Road. A male suspect pried open the back of a newspaper stand coin box and stole approximately $5.

Saugus

A residential burglary and grand theft auto was reported from the 22300 block of Los Tigres Drive. The victim’s ex-girlfriend broke into his house and stole his vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered a short distance away. This case is being investigated by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A residential burglary was reported from 22900 Oak Tree Drive. The victim said that her room was broken into and her medication was missing along with a laptop.

A petty theft occurred from the Home Depot on Newhall Ranch Road. The suspect concealed items and attempted to exit the location without paying for them. The suspect was contacted by Home Depot loss prevention and detained pending the deputy’s arrival. 

Newhall

On Feb. 28, at 7 p.m., a resident in the 23600 block of Newhall Avenue found a male in his vehicle attempting to steal it. The victim confronted the suspect and the suspect attacked him with a screwdriver. The suspect fled the area but deputies were able to identify him as a known parolee from Sylmar.

On Feb. 25, between 6:20 p.m. and 11:45 p.m., a window smash vehicle burglary occurred in a parking lot near Railroad Avenue and Market Street. The victim had a laptop and an external hard drive stolen which had been left on the front seat.

Between Feb. 26, at 4 p.m., and Feb. 27, at 5:30 a.m., a vehicle burglary occurred in the 20900 block of Costa Brava. The suspect possibly got in through a window that does not function properly. Electronics, paperwork, and personal items were stolen.

On Feb. 25, while deputies were following up on a tip from an earlier theft report  in the 23400 block of 8th Street, they discovered a vehicle that had been stolen in Newhall in August last year. Through their investigation they identified and arrested a 36 year old male for grand theft auto.

Between Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m., and Feb. 26 at 7:30 a.m., a Jeep “Grand Cherokee” was stolen from the 21400 block of Grape Lily Circle. The vehicle has not been recovered yet.

On Feb. 28, a Ford “Ranger” was stolen from 23244 Sierra Highway. The truck was recovered Sylmar on Mar. 1.

Between Feb. 28 at 1 p.m., and Feb. 1 at 6:30 a.m., a Honda “Civic” was stolen from 24700 Valley Street. The vehicle has not been recovered.

Santa Clarita Deputy Helps Man After Suspected Attempted SuicideOn Feb. 28, at 7:45 p.m., a wallet containing identification and $700 cash was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 23200 block of Sierra Highway.

There were three adults arrested last week in the Newhall area for narcotic related charges, one for domestic violence, and two adult males from out of the area were booked for public intoxication.

Stevenson Ranch 

A burglary attempt occurred at a business in the 25200 block of The Old Road. No arrest was made.

A burglary to vehicle incident occurred in the 24200 block of The Old Road. Unknown person(s) broke a window to the victim’s vehicle and rummaged through his property. There was no loss. No arrest was made. 

A shoplifting incident occurred in the 25400 block of The Old Road. An adult male was detained by Loss Prevention personnel for stealing “D” batteries and a battery charger. The items were recovered and the Newhall resident was arrested.

A petty theft from vehicle occurred in the 27000 block of Fairway Lane. Unknown person(s) entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle (parked in his driveway) and stole the victim’s sunglasses and gift card.

Another petty theft from a vehicle incident occurred in the 25400 block of Huxley Drive. Unknown person(s) entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole the victim’s “Sony PSP” video game device, a watch, clothing, cologne and a debit card.

A petty theft incident occurred at a business in the 25200 block of The Old Road. Unknown suspect(s) stole the victim’s wallet containing his CDL, $61 in cash and debit card when he left it unattended on top of the ice machine in the employee work area.

Another petty theft incident occurred at a business in the 24800 block of Pico Canyon Road. Unknown suspect(s) stole the victim’s purse containing her passport and social security card when she left it unattended on a display shelf.
