This week, the Sheriff’s Department released year-to-date crime figures for each of the sheriff’s stations in Los Angeles County.

The Action Family Foundation is hosting a panel and discussion with the local sheriff’s juvenile team about teen issues in our community on June 26.

Victor Beres, 61, of Saugus, was identified as the man found dead on the 20700 block of Plum Canyon Road on Saugus, according to Coroner’s officials.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested three drivers and impounded four cars at a Valencia DUI/driver’s license checkpoint on Magic Mountain Parkway and Avignon Drive.

Below are reports from the different Sheriff zone’s throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.

Here’s a summary of incidents that took place in the last week in Santa Clarita:

Canyon Country East crime report

This week in Canyon Country-East we had 11 Part-1 crimes. Of those reported crimes, there was 1 assault, 7 burglaries, 1 larceny and 2 stolen vehicles.

An assault occurred from the 27600 block of Nugget Drive. The victim was friends with the suspect and allowed him onto his cell phone cell plan. When the suspect accused him of stealing his property, the victim told him to get his own cell phone service and had him removed from his cell phone plan. The suspect held a knife to the victim’s throat and threatened to kill him if he did not turn on his phone. The suspect was arrested.

A residential burglary occurred on the 17800 block of Danielson Street on June 1st between 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm. A MacBook, iPad and keyboard was stolen from a vehicle that was parked in the garage. Entry was made by easily manipulating the garage door lock.

A residential burglary occurred on the 27300 block of Dovehouse Street between May 31st, 4:00 pm – June 3rd, 8:30 am. The unknown suspect(s) lifted the unlocked garage door and stole a stereo face plate, a speaker box and a wallet from the unlocked vehicle.

A residential burglary occurred on the the 27900 block of Solamint Road between June 3rd, 10:40 pm – June 4th, 1:30 am. Two televisions, an Xbox and a bicycle were stolen from the residence. Entry was made through a bedroom window.

A residential burglary occurred on the 17600 block of Harris Way on June 5th, between 8:00 pm – 11:45 pm. The garage to the residence was left open; the vehicle that was parked in the garage was unlocked with the keys in the center console.  That vehicle was stolen, a second vehicle that was parked in the garage was ransacked but nothing was taken.

A residential burglary occurred on the 27600 block of Rosa Lane between June 6th, 7:30 pm – June 7th, 7:30 am. Unknown suspect(s) entered the closed garage and pried open the vehicle door. A laptop, Prada glasses and a wallet were stolen.

A residential burglary occurred on the 29600 block of Poppy Meadow Street between June 2012 – July 2012. The victim reported someone broke into her residence and stole her personal property, she reported seeing pry marks on her front door.

A petty theft occurred from the 18200 block of Sandy Drive. The victim received a call stating he won a sweepstakes and will receive $2.5 million and a new car, all he had to do is pay for the taxes on the vehicle. He was told to place $379 on a gift card and call the suspect with the information. When the suspect asked for an additional $500, the victim became suspicious.

A 2008 Toyota pick-up was stolen from Sierra Highway and American Beauty Drive between June 2, 1:00 p.m. – June 3, 5:40 a.m. The vehicle was recovered on Sierra Highway and Sierra Cross on June 8.

A 1996 Toyota Avalon was stolen from the 18200 block of Sandy Drive between June 6 – June.

Canyon Country West crime report

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred:

(3) Commercial Burglaries, (1) Shoplift, (2) Petty Thefts and (1) GTA.

Two commercial burglaries were reported last week near the 21500 block of Golden Triangle Road. Unknown suspects broke into two storage units and took several pieces of jewelry and musical instruments. Both cases are currently under investigation by station detectives.

Another commercial burglary occurred near the 27100 block of Sierra Highway. Three suspects pried open the back door to the location and upon entering, kicked open an office door. The suspects attempted to pry open a safe located inside the office, however they were unsuccessful. It was unknown, at the time of the report, if anything was missing.

A petty theft/shoplifting occurred near the 18500 block of Soledad Canyon Road. A male suspect approached the counter of the location and stated he did not have enough money to purchase an item. The suspect then ran out of the store without paying for the item.

A GTA occurred near the 27700 block of Mahogany Row. A 2008 Toyota Tacoma was taken from the street located in front of the victim’s residence. The vehicle was recovered approximately two days after the incident.

Newhall crime report

This week, Newhall (Zone 6) had six reported part one crimes. Those six crimes consisted of two commercial burglaries, one vehicle burglary, two petty thefts, and one report of a stolen vehicle.

A commercial burglary was reported on the 23200 block of Lyons Avenue in Newhall. The front door to the location was smashed. Several glass display cases inside the business were also smashed. Multiple items were stolen from inside the business (ref -07714).

A petty theft was reported from the 24600 block of Valley Street. Batteries were stolen from the utility curbside container near the corner of Valley Street and Happy Valley Drive (ref -07794).

A 1997 black Honda Accord was reported stolen from the 23500 block of Lyons Avenue. The vehicle was later recovered on the 24700 block of Valley Street (ref -07779).

A vehicle burglary was reported from the 24300 block of Newhall Avenue. The driver’s side window on the vehicle was smashed and currency, a stereo, an mp3 player, and approximately 200 CD’s were stolen (ref -07541).

Zone 6 has seen 10% fewer reported violent crimes this year, compared to the same time last year

Zone 6 has seen 19.15% fewer reported incidents of burglary this year, compared to the same time last year

Overall, Zone 6 has seen 11.56% fewer reported part one crimes this year, compared to the same time last year

Saugus crime report

This week in Saugus we had two petty thefts and one commercial burglary. The first petty theft occurred at Central Park on Saturday, 05/31/2013. The victim left her purse unattended at the park. When she returned, she discovered numerous items were missing. No one was seen near the victim’s purse around the time of the incident.

There was a petty theft in the 26200 block of Springbrook Avenue between Thursday, 05/30/2013 and Sunday, 06/02/2013. The victim said that someone stole his work issued cellphone from the location. Detectives are actively working the case.

There was a commercial burglary in the 26800 block of Bouquet Canyon Road on Sunday, 06/09/2013, at 7:00 a.m. Deputies responded to a burglary in progress call. The call indicated that a male was in the process of stealing items out of a storage container at the location. Upon arrival, deputies located a male matching the description in the call leaving the location. Deputies quickly apprehended the suspect and after further investigation found numerous items of stolen property in his vehicle. The suspect was subsequently arrested without incident.

There were multiple arrests over the past week in Saugus. There was a great arrest on Wednesday, 06/05/2013, near Susan Beth Way. The Crime Impact Team conducted a probation search at the location and arrested two individuals. During the search deputies located narcotics, drug paraphernalia, identity theft paperwork and suspected stolen property.
