Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Reports 2/04 to 2/10

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s crime report released featured a number of significant arrests, including a major break in an identity theft case for which detectives are still seeking the community’s help.

In another major arrest, detectives caught a suspect who they believe was stealing women’s IDs and credit information after gaining their trust on dating websites.

The suspects made up elaborate stories in order to con his victims. Detectives are asking anyone else who might be a victim to call 661-255-1121 and ask for Sgt. James Anderson.

Canyon Country East

This week in Canyon Country East we had 9 Part-1 crimes. Of those crimes, there was 1 assault, 1 robbery, 2 residential burglaries, 1 commercial burglary, 2 larcenies, 1 vehicle burglary and 1 stolen vehicle. 

An assault occurred in the 27900 block of Solamint Road. During a verbal argument between the suspect and his girlfriend, the suspect poured bleach on the victim. A robbery occurred from the Target store. While the suspect was being detained by loss prevention for shoplifting, he began fighting with the loss prevention officer. The suspect was subsequently arrested. 

A residential burglary occurred in the 18000 block of Anne’s Circle. Personal items were stolen from the victim’s garage and there was no sign of forced entry. A residential burglary occurred in the 28900 block of Sam Place. Unknown suspect(s) entered the home through the unlocked front door and stole the victim’s laptop. A commercial burglary occurred from a business located in the 16500 block of Soledad Canyon Road. Unknown suspect(s) cut the padlocks to a container and stole 200 pounds of aluminum cans. A grand theft occurred from the Target store. The victim’s purse was stolen after it was left unattended in a shopping cart. A shoplifting occurred from the Target Store. The suspect entered the location and stole several cans of baby formula. The suspect has not yet been identified. A motorcycle was stolen from the 27900 block of Solamint Canyon Road. 

We have seen an increase of residential burglaries throughout Santa Clarita. In most instances entrance was made by an unlocked side garage door.

Canyon Country – West 
This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 crimes occurred: 

(1) Residential Burglary/Attempt, (1) Commercial Burglary, (1) Vehicle Burglary, (7) Thefts from Unlocked Vehicles, (3) Shoplift, (1) Petty Theft 

An attempted residential burglary occurred near the 27600 block of Burgundy Crossing Lane. A male and female suspect broke into the victim’s vehicle and took a garage door opener. They then used the opener to gain entry into the garage. When the victim heard the door open, he ran downstairs and saw the suspects walking away from the location. 

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 19200 block of Soledad Canyon Road. A suspect shattered the front passenger side window of the vehicle and took a backpack. 

On Monday, 02/04/2013, a shoplift burglary occurred at the Wal-Mart located at 26471 Carl Boyer Drive. A male and female suspect walked out of the store with a cart full of unpaid items. The suspects were detained by loss prevention officers and subsequently arrested by responding deputies. 

A petty theft shoplifting incident occurred in the 26600 block of Golden Valley Road. The suspect entered the store and placed several items under her purse inside the shopping cart. The suspect approached a register and paid for selected items. She then exited the store, failing to pay for the concealed items. After being detained by loss prevention personnel, the suspect was arrested by responding deputies.

Newhall
This week Newhall had ten reported Part-1 crimes. Newhall saw two robberies, one grand theft, four vehicle burglaries, one petty theft, one commercial burglary, and one aggravated assault. 

On Monday, 02/04/2013 at approximately 2:00 p.m., license plate registration tabs were reported stolen from the 23700 block of Lyons Avenue. The vehicle registration and the 2014 tabs were reported stolen from the glove box of the vehicle. The victim last saw the registration and tabs when she brought her vehicle to the car wash (ref -01780) 

On Tuesday, 02/05/2013 at approximately 11:20 p.m. a vehicle burglary was reported. The victim approached three male suspects who were breaking into his car. Some of the suspects began to punch and assault the victim. The three males then ran off in different directions. One suspect was later arrested for robbery and burglary. The other two males are still outstanding and the investigation is ongoing (ref -01750). This incident occurred in the 20900 block of Costa Brava. 

A vehicle burglary was reported in the 24600 block of Walnut Street on Friday, 02/08/2013. This crime is alleged to have taken place between 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. A glass window was smashed and a wallet was stolen from the vehicle (ref -01886). 

Over the weekend, numerous arrests were made by deputies assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. On Saturday, 02/09/2013 at approximately 8:45 p.m. deputies from the Special Assignment Team (SAT) were conducting a patrol check at a residence located on the 24100 block of Pine Street as requested by the property owner. SAT deputies contacted Daniel Ramirez, a 38 year-old male from Newhall during their patrol check. During an investigation deputies recovered eight individual plastic bindles each containing methamphetamine. This is a substantial arrest due to the fact Mr. Ramirez has been known to associate with local gang members. This incident is still under investigation as to the relationship between the local gang and this measurable amount of narcotics. Mr. Ramirez was arrested and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for possession of a controlled substance for sale and for an outstanding arrest warrant (ref- 01932). It is the goal of all deputies assigned to Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station to continue to focus on gang and drug enforcement efforts.

Saugus 
 This week we stayed around the average number of reported Part-1 crimes. There was a burglary to a detached garage in the 22600 block of Decoro Drive between Wednesday, 02/06/2013 and Saturday, 02/09/2013. The suspect(s) broke the padlock and roll up door to gain entry. A high dollar generator was taken. 

There was a commercial burglary from a local convenience store in the 28400 block of Copper Hill Drive on Saturday, 02/09/2013 at approximately 4:00 p.m. The suspects entered the store and stole nearly $800 worth of miscellaneous merchandise. The suspects then fled in a small sport utility vehicle. Detectives are actively working the case. 

There was a petty theft from the 22900 block of Oakridge Drive between Friday, 02/08/2013 and Saturday, 02/09/2013. Suspect(s) unknown stole miscellaneous property from a small storage box in the underground parking area. 

There was a theft from an unlocked vehicle in the 23000 block of Soledad Canyon Road on Monday, 02/04/2013 at approximately 3:00 a.m. The victim had his wallet stolen from his vehicle when he left it unlocked while he entered a business for approximately 15 minutes. 

The Saugus area has seen a decrease in part-1 crimes over the past five weeks. Violent crime has dropped dramatically with only 2 reported incidents as compared to 10 by this same time period last year. Property crime is also down with only 46 crimes reported this year as compared to 57 this time last year. The only increase in crime we have seen in the Saugus zone this year is in petty thefts with 7 additional crimes reported, in comparison to last year at this time.

Valencia 
Zone 5-Valencia reported thirty five Part-1 Crimes during the past week, the highest this year! The criminal incidents included a grand theft auto, robbery, residential/vehicle burglaries, and shoplifting from local businesses. 

A grand theft auto occurred on the 25000 block of Via Jacara on Sunday morning. The vehicle stolen was a 2012 Honda Civic, which was parked in the driveway and taken without the owner’s consent. A suspect has been identified and Detectives assigned to the Santa Clarita Station are currently investigating this case. 

A robbery occurred on Wiley canyon and Via Macarena on Sunday afternoon. The victim was attempting to sell an electric guitar to the suspect. The suspect pulled out a knife and fled on foot with the guitar. The guitar was recovered at a local pawn shop. An investigation was conducted and a suspect was arrested two days later. 

There were eight residential burglaries that occurred in varies areas of Valencia. Most of the burglaries occurred during the early morning hours of the week. Areas affected were the 23500 block of Lyons Avenue, 24100 block of Newhall Avenue, 24900 block of Magic Mountain Parkway, 23900 block of Capistrano Court, and 23700 Del Monte. Entries/exits were made through unlocked side doors of garages and unlocked sliding glass doors. Items stolen were jewelry, tools, airsoft pistols and a bicycle. Once again, lock and secure all doors and windows in your home, including the garage area. 

Six vehicle burglaries, all work trucks, occurred between the early morning hours of 5:00 pm – 7:00 am. Areas affected were the 24800 block of Avenue Rockefeller and 25100 block of Magic Mountain Parkway. The items stolen were leaf blowers, power tools and gas cards which were visible from outside of the vehicles. 
Entries/exits were made by smashing passenger windows and from prying tool boxes located in the rear of the trucks. 

Do not become a victim! Please do not leave valuables unattended or visible in your vehicles. Secure items in locked trunks or take personal belongings with you when you exit your vehicle. If possible, park in well-lit areas. 

There were twenty two arrests made by proactive Santa Clarita Deputies assigned to the Valencia area last week. Arrests included, robbery, burglary, spousal assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of drugs, a grand theft of a vehicle, and shoplifting from local businesses.
