KHTS AM-1220 will be broadcasting live from the event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Sheriff’s Station Deputy Josh Dubin, KHTS News Director Perry Smith and KHTS morning show host George Cummings.

The haunted jailhouse experience is intended for children of all ages, said Sheriff’s Station Deputy Joe Trejo, who’s organizing the event.

“Basically, what’s happening is we take the station and we split it in half,” Trejo said, describing the “Alice in Wonderland”- themed fantasy side, and a scarier half that’s intended for older children.

The inmates are moved to another facility for the event, and the jail is cleaned up for the public, he said.

The event is a community-led effort, Trejo said, adding that the Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club volunteer members who help entertain other children.

“There’s also going to be other groups here, including a lot of nonprofits,” Trejo said.

In addition to scout troops, Prayer Angels for the Military, Habitat for Humanity, the YMCA, the Santa Clarita Youth Project and the Placerita Canyon Nature Center are just a few of the organizations involved.

There will also be food vendors, such as Lamppost Pizza and Rita’s.

“We give them a chance to showcase their stuff,” Trejo said, “and we try to have a good time.”
