Santa Clarita YMCA Gets Welcome Good News

khts_budgetDespite hardships being felt in other areas of the valley, as well as up and down the state of California, the Santa Clarita Valley YMCA is celebrating some good news they received just this morning.

Chris Clark, the director of development and communications for the Santa Clarita YMCA, said that the 22 families threatened with losing their child care funding because of state budget cutbacks will now be assured of childcare through the end of the year.

“We have been in touch with the Child Care Resource Center three or four times a day just trying to work something out,” Clark said. “We just got an update that the funding will definitely continue through August and September and is expected to continue through the end of the year.”

Clark said that the CCRC is still evaluating the effect of Sacramento’s budget adjustments on future programming.

KHTS reported that budget cutbacks might result in some families having to find alternate childcare arrangements. Read that story here.
