Santa Susana Park On Way To Becoming Reality

Advisory committee first step in creating park.

AB 1842, a bill bringing Santa Susana State Park a step closer to reality passed out of the Assembly Water Parks and Wildlife Committee this week. Authored by Santa Clarita Assemblyman Cameron Smyth this legislation directs the Department of Parks and Recreation to establish the Santa Susana State Park Advisory in order to create the SantaSusana State Park.

The committee will be responsible for assisting state parks in an advisory capacity to plan for interim and permanent land uses and facilities through the general planning process for the site.

“I am encouraged to see that this vision for a state park in the Los Angeles/Ventura Region has received such strong bi-partisan support,” said Smyth.  “I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Legislature as well as the community to create this wonderful legacy for California and the region.”

This bill will next be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Also, today AB 2559, authored by Assemblyman Smyth, passed out of the Assembly Water Parks and Wildlife Committee.  This bill increase the maximum contract term for concession contracts for multi-unit lodging facilities from 20 years to up to 50 years when the initial anticipated capital improvement exceeds $1.5 million.
