Matt Randall of Bird in the Sky Satellite phone sales and rental will be donating a pair of iridium satellite phones to KHTS News to enhance the local radio station’s ability to utilize reliable, immediate communications when cell and landline phones are down or overloaded.
The satellite phones will allow KHTS News staff to maintain communication with emergency personnel as they gather up-to-the moment news for the safety and protection of the residents and businesses of the Santa Clarita Valley.
Bird In The Sky owner Matt Randall knows about the importance of communication and the immediacy of the news business, with 22 years experience coordinating photographers from the Los Angeles Times.
“Professional photographers go to the news, wherever it’s unraveling,” Randall said. “They remain as others flee natural disasters. They seek the unseen and bring it to the rest of the world.”
Along with wrangling photographers, Randall has a talent for logistics and has managed logistics for sporting events such as the Olympics and Super Bowl, as well as working on disasters such as the September 11 terrorist attack and Hurricane Katrina.
