Saugus Gets A Helping Hand

Two local companies donate trees, manpower to revitalize vandalized quad

ImageTwo weeks ago, vandals entered the Saugus High School campus and destroyed twelve brand new trees the school had planted as a part of their modernization.

The damage was done with a hatchet or an axe, and the trees were hacked up and simply left mangled. The vandals also hit a few soda machines, ripping those apart and stealing the soda and money.

“I was shocked,” said Breanna, a Saugus senior who is in ASB. Her fellow ASB member Lindsay expanded on that feeling of surprise; “The school’s been under construction for the whole time we’ve been here, and that makes it even worse,” she said.

While no suspects have been arrested yet, two local companies offered a way for Saugus Students to get a little redemption. Valley Crest Tree Company donated eighteen trees; sixteen Liquid Amber and four Crate Myrtle trees.

Stay Green Inc, a local landscaping company then donated the manpower to dig the new holes and plant the trees. Stay Green’s Vice President Chris Angelo noted that as soon as he found out what happened at the school, he felt inclined to help out. “

The trees will go in the center quad, surrounding a lush green seating area.
