SCVPoker.com is hosting a poker tournament Saturday to help raise money for the Saugus High cheer squad, to help pay for the team’s travel costs, a Saugus High parent said this week.

Poker, blackjack and craps will be offered to gamers who may participate in a $100 buy-in before the pre-sale deadline, and a $125 buy-in after Nov. 20.
The grand prize is a $1,500 entry into the annual 2014 World Series of Poker Tour, which has become a nationally televised event.
“(The teams) work very hard with a choreographer, and their coaches, to be the best in their divisions and place well,” stated Denise Anderson, whose daughter participates on the junior varsity squad, in an email. “Nationals is a big deal to our team and extremely rewarding.”
However, it’s an expensive process.
“The costs to participate in Nationals are exorbitant, thus the need for the Saugus Cheer Poker Tournament & Casino Night,” she added. “We are hopeful that this event will get us to our goal to cover the costs for Nationals. Nationals is a big deal to our team and extremely rewarding.”
Registration starts at 5 p.m., and the tournament and casino games start at 6 p.m.
If someone wants to come and watch, there is a $50 fee, which will go to support the cheer team.
The event which is being hosted by the Velocity Performance Center, which is located at 28325 Constellation Road, in Valencia.

The event organizers are hoping to make it an annual event that will support the team’s efforts to compete in the Regional Competition, and a repeat trip to Nationals in March.
