Waking up behind bars isn’t usually what 18 year olds have in mind for their birthdays, but that’s exactly what one Saugus youth got after making a bad judgment call Wednesday night.
According to Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station, the young man was one of three who were trying to stop a deputy from giving a young woman a ticket for marijuana possession around 11:30 p.m.
The deputy was talking with the woman in the area of Haskell Canyon Road and Grove Park Drive when the three men tried to start a fight with the deputy. After gaining control of the most aggressive youth and before any other units could arrive on the scene to help him, the deputy detained the other two at gunpoint, advising them to hit the pavement, which they did.
The 17-year old was taken to the Santa Clarita station for booking on suspicion of obstructing an officer. Because he was a juvenile at the time of his arrest, his identity was not revealed.
